Man Killed by Rooster at California Cockfight
February 9th, 2011 - 1:34 am ICT by Angela Kaye MasonFeb 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) You just can’t make this stuff up. A man from central California was killed when a rooster which had a knife attached to it’s drumstick stabbed the man in his leg.
Officials confirmed on Monday that Jose Luis Ochoa was pronounced dead at a hospital within a couple of hours of being stabbed by a rooster at a cock fight in Tulare County, California. The Kern County coroner stated that the incident occurred on January 30, and that the autopsy revealed Ochoa died from “sharp force injury” to his right calf, according to the Associated Press.
Ray Pruitt, speaking for the Sheriff’s Department stated that it was not evident whether or not a delay in getting Ochoa to the medical facility in a timely manner may have contributed to his death. Sgt Martin King, who has been with the Sheriff’s Department for twenty four years, stated that he had never seen this type of incident.
Witnesses, as well as Ochoa himself, ran when the police showed up at the scene of the cockfight, where deputies discovered five dead roosters, and more evidence that a cock fighting ring had been present. There were no arrests made. Ochoa had already paid three hundred and seventy dollars in a case where he plead no contest to owning or training an animal to fight last year.
