Man jailed for eating cats

Investigators in California say Jason Wilmert was arrested after neighbors reported hearing unusual cat screech and the scent of odd meat being cooked.
Officials say Wilmert killed and ate stray cats at his home in Oildale, Calif. He has currently been arrested and is being kept in the Kern County jail. He has been charged with cruelty to animals and another rare charge of eating an animal commonly kept as a pet or companion.
Neighbors told reporters that, ‘I heard a cat cry really, really loud. And I came outside, because I’m an animal lover. The lady right here saw him holding a tail, skinning it. It is still alive.”
Officers have been asking the neighborhood to determine if anyone has lost a pet. Officials say no one in the neighborhood seems to have lost a pet now. Investigators suspect that Wilmert might have eating other pets like dogs in the past but because they don’t have any evidence, they have limited the investigation to cats.
The police admitted that this is the first time that they have seen anything like this before. The case is one of the rarest in the developed world but common in the developing world.
