Man convicted of wearing jeans to work
December 15th, 2011 - 12:42 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattSydney, Dec 14 (THAINDIAN NEWS) An Australian court has convicted a taxi driver for wearing jeans to work. Shahram Forozandeh has been ordered to pay in excess of $1,400 for violating the state uniform standards in Adelaide.
The Adelaide Magistrate Court was told that Forozandeh reported to work last January in his denim jeans instead of the official uniform for drivers. The court agreed that he was wrong to wear the jeans to work and subsequently ordered him to pay a fine of $265 plus a further $1,150 in costs to the court.
Forozandeh doesn’t believe he did anything wrong. He claims that he is being targeted by the authorities because he tried to stand up for his rights.
The Transport Department has come up with a special uniform for all taxi drivers. Forozandeh was arrested and charged last January after he started working without his uniform.
After the trial, Forozandeh was visibly angry as he remarked that, “Unfair and untrue as well, it was all set up…Once you stand up for your principles that’s what they don’t like, the management.”
The 44-year-old said he will consider his chances and see if he will appeal the sentence which was handed down to him.
