Man charged after losing hand to alligator

Everglade, July 30 (THAINDIAN NEWS) An airboat captain who was bitten by an alligator last month has now been arrested and charged for feeding reptile. The man was arrested last Friday and is going to face charges of unlawfully feeding the reptile.

The 63 year old man from Everglade’s city was however released on a $ 1000 bond shortly after his arrest on Friday. His charge of feeding a reptile is considered a second degree misdemeanor in the state of Florida and is punishable by a fine of $ 500 or jail time of up to 60 days.

A woman who was with the man at the time of the incident said that the man was feeding the alligator before it attacked and bit him. According to the woman, the attacked was informed by the man patting the water which led to the reptile biting his hand. The June 12 attack is not the first incident that a resident of the collier county has lost a limb or hand due to an alligator attack.

A number of people have fallen victims to an alligator attack due to feeding it. in the year 2010, an 18 year old was bit by an alligator as he played in a swimming hole. Recently, a 90 year old woman Margaret Webb lost her left leg after being attacked an alligator.
