Warsaw, Dec 13 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The airBaltic, a Latvian airliner, announced on Monday that they will add the sale of cars to their business. The airliner announced that with their venture, they have become the first in the industry to offer such a service.

The car sales will start on Friday with the airline saying passengers who have 50 euro cash when they are in the air can start negotiations from there. A Mini Cooper R56 is being offered for 24,699 euros but passengers will only be required to make a down payment of 50 euros during the flight. Once the plane touches the ground, the passenger is expected to pay the remaining balance and take delivery of the car.

The chief executive of airBaltic, Martin Gauss, in a statement explained the incentive behind venturing into the car sales market. He revealed that, “airBaltic is the world’s first airline to start selling cars on board. Naturally, we still believe that flying is smarter than driving whenever possible.”

The Latvian government recently increased its stake in the airline. In a bid to save the carrier from insolvency, the government increased its share in the company from 52 percent to 99 percent. The takeover was completed on the first day of December.
