Largest Dutch clog goes missing
January 11th, 2012 - 11:05 pm ICT by Aishwarya Bhatt ( Leave a comment )Amsterdam, Jan 11 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Dutch police have been left scratching their heads after a 2-tonne clog at a main street went missing. Investigators are at a loss as to how the massive structure which measures four meters in length was moved without anyone realizing.
Investigators say the theft was detected on Saturday morning meaning it took place either late Friday night or early Saturday morning. The police say they received an email saying the clog will be returned after the carnival. The investigators have not been able to track the sender of the email.
Police spokesperson Rosita de Vries told the Associated Press that “We don’t know who stole it, but it’s disappeared… It is a joke. We even received an email announcing that the shoe will probably be back after Carnival… They (the thieves) would have had a truck to fly off with this shoe.”
The police have promised to solve the mystery promising that the thieves will be dragged to court if they are found.
The clog is the biggest in the Netherlands. The country is famous with its clogs which are still worn today. They are traditionally carved from single piece of wood. They are seen as part of the Dutch culture with many people not ready to let it go.
