Jonathan McGowan lives off roadkill for the last 30 years
October 18th, 2011 - 8:07 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattLondon, Oct 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A British man believes it is “wicked” to let roadkills go waste. 44-year-old Jonathan McGowan says he has lived on animals found dead along the road and in the forests for 30 years and has not fallen sick.
McGowan revealed that the first time that he ate roadkill was about 30 years ago when he found a snake by the side of the road. Though he never actually enjoyed the snake that he cooked and ate, he said he has since been hooked to the practice of searching for roadkills and eating them.
During a conversation with CNN recently, McGowan said that, “I believe it’s a much better meat. It’s totally organic, and otherwise it would totally go to waste. To see so many animals in the UK run over every day, even on a short journey, I think it’s a wicked waste.”
He said his range of meat is diverse having eaten rats, owls, bats and snakes among other creatures that he will find killed along the roadside.
McGowan is proud of what he is doing – scavenging the highways of Britain. Though some experts consider what he is doing dangerous, McGowan believes it actually helps his body.
According to him, the practice has not sent him to the hospital at all.
