Japanese Fruit Company Plays Mozart to Bananas
November 27th, 2010 - 12:57 am ICT by Angela Kaye MasonNov 26 (THAINDIAN NEWS) According to a report from the Japanese Times, a fruit company in Japan has been playing Mozart to their bananas, claiming that “hearing” the music while they ripen makes the fruit much sweeter.
The article went on to explain that bananas are not the only Japanese food to be exposed to more culture lately. It seems a very wide variety of fruits, drinks, and other foods have been “listening” to classical music as well. Sake, udon noodles, soysauce, and many other food items are on the list.
This is apparently not a new trend, however, but has been ongoing for at least twenty years. According to the senior managing director at Ohara Shuzo brewery, Fumiko Ohara, they began this exposure 20 years ago as an experiment, and have tried music by many different composers. He insists that the sake prefers Mozart.
We found Mozart works best for sake,” Ohara exclaimed, “and that’s why we use only his music.”
