Island sculpture goes missing at Secret Garden party
August 4th, 2011 - 1:09 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattLondon, Aug 3 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A helium-filled inflatable desert island model floated away in front of several people without anyone noticing it. The owners of the balloon are urging people who will find the piece floating around to contact them.
Created by Royal College of Art graduates Sarah Cockings and Laurence Symonds, the floating island cost £9,000 and it was called “Is Land.” It took Sarah and Laurence six months to come up with the artwork. It is made of durable polyurethane and it has foliage décor.
“Is Land” was on display at the Secret Garden Party festival. During the event, revelers failed to notice that the balloon was flying away. At the last time that the balloon was seen, the security at the Secret Garden said they saw unidentified pranksters cutting the tether ropes that held the balloon in place. It is not immediately clear why the security failed to stop the pranksters.
Laurence and Sarah have since launched the website is-land.co.uk where anyone with information on the missing island can provide it.
The website urges that, “Due to ignorant vandals, the original Is Land is currently floating at an unknown height somewhere within the atmosphere…if you think you see a new planet intercept your easyJet flight to the Algarve, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.”
