New York, April 19(THAINDIAN NEWS) A judge at the International Criminal Court has ruled that lawyers who appear before her should not wear wigs. Justice Ekaterina Trendafilova is the judge who is sitting on the case involving three Kenyans accused of playing parts in the deadly 2007 Kenyan violence that followed the presidential election in the country.

On Monday when the lawyers appeared in the court, quite substantial numbers of them were wearing white horsehair wigs with their black gowns. Their dress code caught the attention of Trendafilova who informed them that it was wrong in her court.

The ruling left some of the lawyers baffled because some of them had earlier wore the same wigs to the courtroom without any protest from the judge. The court officials also confirmed that the ICC does not have any rule which bans wigs. However the spokesman of the court, Fadi El Adballah, said individual judges can define dress codes for their court. The spokesman said the judge decided in the latest case that since it was not compulsory for lawyers to wear wigs, it would be better for all of them not to have wigs.
