Indonesia’s famous singing policeman fired
December 8th, 2011 - 9:03 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattManila, Dec 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) An Indonesian police officer who made the international headlines after a music video of him went viral on the Internet has been fired by his bosses. His crime?…well his superiors say he placed his stardom above his duty as an officer of the force. The video of the officer doing “Chaiyya Chaiyya” and surrounded by screaming fans went viral last April.
Norman Kamaru was first questioned about his singing when the YouTube video got to the notice of his superiors. Later on, he was honored for promoting the image of the force by showing the softer part of the men in black. In the latest twist of fortune brought upon the 26-year-old man, the officers fired him saying he has neglected his duty.
His bosses claim that for two months, Kamaru has failed to appear at post and that cannot be tolerated. His colleague officers are equally incensed about his attitude towards the force.
An officer called Lisma Dunggio believes Kamaru has the force to thank for the fame that he is currently enjoying. Lisma told reporters that, “He hasn’t shown up for two months. Who does he think he is? What made him famous was his uniform.”
Kamaru was fired from the force on Tuesday.
