Indian teacher shocked by his $10 billion bank balance
January 19th, 2012 - 8:56 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattMumbai, Jan 19 (THAINDIAN NEWS) An Indian teacher had a pleasant shock when he checked his bank balance recently. When Parijat Saha checked his bank balance online last Sunday, he least expected to find $10 billion in the account.
With a salary of $700, Saha will have to live several years over to realize that amount in his account. It is not clear how the amount came to show up in his account. After detecting the anomaly, Saha called the bank to notify them of the error. They corrected the issue and said they have commenced investigation into the case.
The State Bank of India’s branch at Balurghat admitted the incident. The bank says they have not yet alerted the parent bank of the incident.
The local branch manager of the bank told reporters that, “We are trying to ascertain what went wrong. We have informed our regional headquarters in Kolkata and national headquarters in Mumbai.”
Saha told AFP that he was expecting to see an interest payment of about $200 in his account when he checked it online. He said that “Instead I saw this astronomical amount.”
It took him some time to recover from the shock and make the call to a friend who worked at the bank.
