Feb 8, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Heston Blumenthal, the chef best known for his weird but tasty culinary inventions, tried out something completely different once more, and yet again, his experiment turned out to be a success. He invented this new trend of serving worm topped pizzas, that is not only making many people fascinated with the idea, but also delighting the ones, who tried them out.
He served this bizarre menu at the Alder Hey hospital in Liverpool, which is one of the largest children’s hospital in the city. Two years ago, the NHS assigned the chef to visit this particular hospital, in order to make the children’s menus more exciting. Previously, the food served by this taxpayer-funded hospitals was not interesting enough. According to Heston Blumenthal, the food was rather horrifying for the children. He said that he saw the menu, to find a miserable pizza recipe that included a thick dough, topped with a thin layer of dry cheese, some tomatoes, baked beens and potato waffles. Supposedly, that was the most popular one amongst the children in the hospital. He said that he was disappointed to find no protein in that recipe. Since every kid love pizzas, he decided to improvise it, by topping them with edible worms. Surprisingly, most of the kids appreciated his efforts. The only one who disliked it, said that it was because of the sauce and not the worms.
Heston Blumenthal said he was shocked to see that the NHS pays least attention to the food and does not consider food as a medicine. He also feels that food is not only for nutritional purpose, but also for pleasure. Even before, the chef created headlines by inventing food like egg and mustard ice-creams and snail porridge, which still reigns to be the best delicacy at the Fat Duck restaurant in Bray, at Berkshire.
