Apr 12, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Hedgehogs are unique animals having a unique capability to roll themselves into a ball apprehending any predator attack. But not the dozen butterballs who were put on a crash diet to shed the extra flab which kept them preventing from rolling into balls while facing the attack from their enemies. This posed to be a threat for these little animals who were left as open prey to foxes and wolves with no resistance coming from them because of their flab. Fourteen such animals which were put of strict diet in February have been released to the wild.
The Scottish animal rescue center went ahead to ground these animals under supervision forcing them to crash diets and help them grow back fit again so that they can stand in front of predator attack with resistance. It is also being said that the animals were confined at the Animal Rescue Center before they can return back to the woods sleek and supple.
Reportedly, the Scottish Animal Care Center’s efforts have bore in fruits as some of the hedgehogs were witnessed to lose some weight as a check was being kept on their daily food intake. The experts back at the center said that these animals make use of the fat in their body only for hibernation but that shouldn’t be a hindrance for them to put up resistance against predator attacks by rolling themselves into a ball. It was also said how these hedgehogs and human beings react in a similar pattern in gaining and losing weights which is a natural phenomenon for both of them. On finding some of the hedgehogs fit enough to live life in accordance to the jungle law, they were sent back to the woods of Pitlochry in Central Scotland.
