Haiti Volunteer Kerfye Pierre’s $34,872.82 Cell Phone Bill
October 15th, 2010 - 11:16 pm ICT by Angela Kaye MasonOct 15 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Kerfye Pierre recently returned from Haiti, where she had been volunteering to help the victims of the aftermath of the horrible earthquake which took place there. Upon her return, she received a cell phone bill which gave her the shock of her life, almost thirty five thousand dollars.
According to ‘CNN’, the twenty-seven year old Washington resident described what it was like the day she received her bill. “I was like, ‘That cannot be possible. And I called them and they were like, ‘Yeah, that’s your bill.’ ”
Pierre said that T-Mobile had agreed to grant her and other volunteers in the Haiti quake’s aftermath a temporary free voice plan. The understanding of these people were that under the plan, they would be allowed to use their cell phones for free while working in Haiti, setting up day camps for the children, and getting water to the victims, etc.
Apparently, T-Mobile’s donation was not as large as believed. They did “forgive” all but five thousand dollars of the bill. It is unclear how many other volunteers have suffered this same fate and ended up with bills of five thousand or more.
