Funeral of Pocho the Crocodile held in Costa Rica
October 17th, 2011 - 9:30 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattSiquirres, Costa Rica, Oct 17 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A crocodile was given a celebrity funeral in Costa Rica recently. The animal which is named Pocho became an instant Internet hit when the owner posted its videos online.
Owner Gilberto Shedden was close to the animal and the relationship between the pair was a delight to many people. The 54-year-old and the crocodile often put up shows for people to watch. They will splash and pretend to wrestle in the pond while patrons stood and watch them.
During the funeral, several people lined the streets as the body of Pocho was driven out of the town. Shedden sat in the truck wearing only a cloth around the loin.
The story of Pocho is remarkable. According to Shedden, he found the animal in a river about 20 years ago. When he found the animal, it was shot in the head so he took it home and started nursing the wounds. The animal recovered and became one of the most beloved crocodiles in the world.
Officials say they will not bury the body of Pocho. Instead, they plan to embalm the creature and place it in a museum where people can go and watch it.
Before it died, Pocho weighed a massive 450kg.
