New Bedford, Mass., Nov 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A Massachusetts fisherman couldn’t believe his luck when the feds took an 881-pound tuna from him. Carlos Rafael has the permit to fish tuna but he can only do so using rod and reel. He caught his fish with the net and as such violated his terms.

The Standard Times reports that Carlos and his crew caught the animal earlier this month but when they got to the shore, the federal fishery enforcement agents were waiting for them to take the creature away.

At the open market, The Associated Press reports that a 754-pound tuna recently fetched $396,000. For violating the terms of his license, the animal will not be sold at the local market. It will be sold internationally and the proceeds will go to the federal government.

Carlos and his crew cannot make any claim to any of the proceeds. They reportedly used net attached to their boat to catch low dwelling fishes.

Obviously disappointed, Carlos told reporters that, “We didn’t try to hide anything. We did everything by the book. Nobody ever told me we couldn’t catch it with a net… What good are they if I can’t catch them?”
