Dutch Prisoner Angelo MacD’s Torture: Too Big for Cell

January 29th, 2011 - 2:41 am ICT by Angela Kaye Mason

Jan 28 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Dutch prisoner Angelo MacD has taken his pleas to court in The Hague, saying that he is too big for his prison cell, and should be allowed to finish his sentence at home. The 2.07m (6ft 9in) tall and 230kg (507 pound) prisoner is too large to fit in the prison cell where he is confined.

According to his attorney, Bas Martens, “He is not obese. He is a giant. He even walks like a giant, like out of the comic books.” Since MacD was sentenced to two years for fraud, and not for causing any physical harm to anyone, he feels that he should not be forced to sleep in a bed he cannot fit in. He also cannot take a shower without leaning over severely, since he is too tall, he cannot sit in the prison canteen, and he is too big for the prison toilets.

Martens says that the living conditions violate the European Convention on Human Rights, and therefore he should be allowed to serve the rest of his sentence at home. A ruling is expected to be served next month.
