PUNXSUTAWNEY, PENNSYLVANIA (THAINDIAN NEWS) — A 55-year-old Pennsylvania man was charged with public drunkenness after he was found giving a long-dead opossum mouth-to-mouth in an attempt to revive him.

It happened near the Pennsylvania town of Punxsutawney, which is best known for its annual Groundhog Day when a groundhog emerges from its burrow and signal the end or the continuation of the winter.

Police say witnesses saw Donald Wolfe, of Brookville, near the animal last Thursday. One of the witnesses, according to the Pennsylvania State Police, saw Wolfe kneeling before the animal and observed the mouth-to-mouth attempt.

WTAE-TV cited a Trooper as saying that Wolfe was “extremely intoxicated” and did have his mouth in the area of the animal’s mouth.

Unfortunately, the mouth-to-mouth resuscitation attempt was unsuccessful and the animal was declared dead.
