15676718Michigan, Aug 5, (THAINDIAN NEWS) In a bizarre incident a dog chewed off the infected toe of his master and saved his life after he passed out owing to drinking in Michigan. The person who is hailing his terrier as a life saver is Jerry Douthett. The incident took place at his Rockford home. After he woke up he found his right toe missing and blood split all over the place. However, after he went to hospital the doctors said he was long suffering from Type 2 diabetes. He was simply refusing to treat his infected toe for some time, as his wife said. The man is 48 years old.

It has been revealed that when the man woke up, he found the toe missing and the dog was beside him. Later the doctors diagnosed that the infection had reached his bone and hence they had to amputate the remaining part of the toe. However neither the man nor his wife is blaming the dog Kiko. On the other hand they are applauding him for saving his life. After the incident he realized what alcohol can cost him and left drinking. His wife said that she always had a suspicion that her husband had undiagnosed diabetes and her doubt turned out to be true.

The act of the dog prompted him to see the doctors otherwise he would go on drinking which could prove fatal to his health. He said that the dog did not chew away more than the infected part and almost acted as a surgeon. The dog is still with the family but he has been kept under vigil for some time.
