15676718 Melbourne, Aug 5 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A man had his dog to thank for saving his life after he neglected a dangerously infected toe.

The person in question - Jerry Douthett for months refused to heed to the advice of his wife to see a doctor. The wife who is a registered nurse suspected her husband had diabetes, as the wound was not healing, but Jerry never seemed to be interested.

But his dog - Kiko chewed the infected toe off thereby saving the man from probable death. When he was rushed to the hospital after the incident, surgeons removed the remains of what was previously his toe and informed him that he had Type 2 diabetes.

According to Rosee Douthett who is Jerry’s wife, the couple went out to drink and after 4 to 5 bottles of beer, Jerry was too drunk and he fell into a sort of a drunken stupor.

According to the wife, she heard a shout from the husband from the bedroom and she rushed in only to find the husband’s toe chewed off by the family dog.

The couple was however grateful to the dog saying he knew exactly when to stop chewing. Jerry who has been discharged from the hospital after treatment says he has stopped drinking because he now knows that he is diabetic.
