Defendant shoots German prosecutor dead in court

The man was convicted of embezzlement and as the judge read the sentence, he pulled out a gun and shot the prosecutor.
Police say the incident happened at a courtroom in the southern state of Bavaria on Wednesday. The 54-year-old suspect was overpowered by two people in the courthouse and handed over to the police. He is currently being held and is expected to be charged with murder.
Chief public prosecutor Christoph Stroetz addressed a press conference on the issue. He explained to the reporters that, “During the oral delivery of the sentence, the culprit pulled out a gun and shot the prosecutor several times.”
Officials say the prosecutor is a freshman at the court. Doctors pronounced him dead shortly after he was rushed to the hospital. The 31-year-old was shot multiple times by the suspect.
The suspect who was unnamed in the report was reportedly in court for failing to pay the national insurance contributions of his workers. He was found guilty after the hearing and was being sentenced when he attacked the prosecutor.
