Plymouth, Aug 30 (NEWS) A couple in Plymouth have found a well that might date back to the 16th century under their sofa. Collin Steer and his wife had for a very long time wandered what was making their living room floor to dip beneath his sofa and it is after he dug the place out that he found that he had been living on an ancient shaft for 25 years.

The well that Devon found is 33 feet deep. Colin said that he had started to dig the place earlier when he realized that there might be something underneath but he had stopped because his wife had told him to stop. They had three children running around in the house at that time.

Devon had always wanted to dig up the place and see what he will find and when he retired from civil service, he went back to digging.

Devon worked for three days and he managed to dig the well up to 17 feet. Devon used the help of a friend to carry out debris dug from the well and he found an old sword. He says that the sword was hidden on a 45 degree angle and it appears to have been a fighting weapon that might have belonged to an old peasant.
