Church Of Body Modification Causes Student Suspension

Sep 17, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Body piercing normally appear as a style statement with adults and teenagers but one girl in North Carolina has been suspended from her school for wearing a nose stud as any kind of body piercing is prohibited by the school rules. The girl - a student of Clayton High School said that her piercing is a religious symbol which reminds her that she is beautiful and keeps her self esteem up.
Many were surprised by the claims of the student’s mother who said that they belonged to a religious group called the “Church of Body Modification” and it was a religious symbol and it gave her strength as she had been through a bad phase before as a child. This so called ‘church of body modification’ is said to work on the principle that by making changes to the body one can balance the mind, body and spirit in a better way.
The 14 year old Ariana Iacono of Clayton was seen wearing her nasal piercing in class and on being questioned she said that it was a religious symbol. The teen was suspended after the first day at school itself. The church of body modification has their own website and they claim that making changes to the body can teach people more about themselves. Body modification refers to the use of tattoos, piercing, scarification, reconstructive and cosmetic surgery as well as other things to make physical changes to the body which would in turn help a person spiritually but it seems the school is not going to accept any modifications to their existing rules as was made clear by their principal.
