October 27, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Children can be cruel indeed! This fact came true yet again when a group of young kids assaulted a 101 elderly man in Spencer Haven, Northampton.

The children accosted him from behind and kicked away his walking stick leaving him hopelessly limited in his ability to move. The man who also suffered from poor eyesight had been walking across a housing complex in Spencer Haven which was thought to be sheltered.

The incident had left him more than just shaken. He was injured as well and now sports cuts on his wrists, arms and legs. His face was not left untouched either while his nose has swollen up to almost double its size. The attack on the old and hapless man occurred last Saturday.

The police have been reported of the assault and say that the incident might not be an isolated case. There may have been more of the same in the vicinity but there have been no reports as yet.

The victim has been released from the hospital yesterday and is currently being interviewed by the Northampton police.

The area of the Spencer Estate particularly the Spencer Haven and Gladstone Road will now be patrolled by the Safer Community Team members. This measure is likely to reassure the residents of the area most of whom are elderly. A climbing camera also got to be installed in Spencer Haven over the weekend following the unfortunate event.

It is an exciting time for the children of the community now with Halloween and Bonfire night being only a few days away. Steve Howard, the Detective Chief Inspector confirmed that the elderly gentleman was doing well now.
