Child brings in crack drugs to a ’show and tell’ show at school
September 21st, 2011 - 7:10 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattMissouri, Sept 21 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A 32-year-old mother is in trouble after her kindergarten child took her crack pipes and drugs to a show and tell show at his school. The school staff who were shocked at what the child had brought to the school called in the police.
Michelle Marie Cheatham was picked by the police after it was determined that the drugs were methamphetamine. The police say the drug has the street value of about $3,700.
Cheatham has subsequently been charged with possession of controlled substances. For being careless with the drug and the pipe, the woman has also been charged with a count of first-degree child endangerment. The charges were brought against her on the 12th of September after a search on her house yielded a crack pipe.
The incident happened at the Sweet Springs Elementary School in Missouri where Cheatham’s child is a student.
Police Chief Richard Downing told reporters that, “When I called the prosecutor about it, they said, ‘You’re kidding me, aren’t you?’”
Cheatham lost her husband earlier this year through an auto accident. The incident has reportedly affected her negatively.
Nonetheless, a resident in her neighborhood quizzed, “It kind of makes you wonder why parents would leave something like that out for a child to get a hold of.”
