Milwaukee, Dec 9 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A 26-toed cat has become the cornerstone for an animal shelter in Milwaukee. Ironically, Tabby was once rejected because of its unusual toes. Cats have 18 toes but Tabby is suffering from a condition called polydactylism giving him extra toes.

The Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center in Wisconsin where the animal is located started a drive to raise money for their rent next year. The rent has been doubled and in order to avoid eviction, the center announced the drive to get the public to help pay the rent.

Patrons could pay $1 for just a toe or $26 for all the toes of the animal. So far, the official of the center say they have collected over $80,000. That is enough to pay for the rest next year but the center is asking for further donations so that they could be in a better financial position.

The owner of the center Amy Rowell told reporters that she ended up with Tabby by mistake.

She explained that, “I’ve always been a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and this is definitely the case. He was very clearly saying, ‘I need to be rescued, I’d like to be your friend, please pay attention to me”,’ she said. ‘And when a sign is that obvious, we tend to not ignore it.”
