Bakersfield, Oct 5 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Prison officials in California have banned the visitors from hugging and kissing the inmates. The prison authorities woke up to the fact that the visitors could be passing on some things to the prison inmates by hugging and kissing.

The prison in question is Lerdo Minimum Facility, which is located in Bakersfield. The officials fear that some of the visitors might not be indulging in affection and passion when they kiss the inmates. Rather they might be using the opportunity and the close contact to pass on some contraband such as drugs and other supplies.

The prison authorities apparently took the decision after four visitors were found to be in possession of a knife, a handcuff key, marijuana, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. This sparked the fear that they might try to pass it on to the inmates by way of their brief physical contact.

The guards at the Lerdo Minimum Facility have been asked to disengage anybody who tries to get physically close to the inmates. The order came into effect from last Friday.
