California man killed by bird in a cockfight
February 9th, 2011 - 2:18 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattDelano, Feb 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A rooster took a revenge of a sort when it stabbed the calf of its owner.
35-year-old Jose Luis Ochoa from California fled from the police when they raided the location where he was supervising a cockfight contest with several others. Before the police raid however Ochoa had been stabbed in the calf by his own cock that had a knife attached to its leg. When the police got to the location, they found five roosters dead.
Ochoa was rushed to the hospital two hours after he was stabbed, the doctors declared that he had already died. The coroner’s investigation also revealed Ochoa died from “sharp force injury” to his calf.
His death has shocked many people who are wondering whether he died because of the delay in seeking medical attention.
Cockfighting is outlawed in the United States because of the cruelty that the animals are subjected to. During cockfighting, the birds are encouraged to fight on until one of the animals drop dead.
Under the Californian law, if a person attends or organize cockfighting, the person could face misdemeanor charges. Subsequent offense will result in a felony charge.
