Brazilians Vote Tiririca The Grumpy Clown Into Congress!
October 5th, 2010 - 1:43 am ICT by Angela Kaye MasonOct 4 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Some countries may argue that politician are all clowns, but the Brazilian people have gone beyond calling them names, and voted an actual clown into the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies, which is the lower house of Brazil’s Congress.
Tiririca the Clown, which translates into “Grumpy” in Portuguese, was elected in the state of Sao Paulo on October 3. It was not even a close vote, as the clown, whose real name is Francisco Everardo Oliveira Silva, won with 1.3 million votes, which was more than any other congressional candidate in the state, which is the most populated in the country.
His slogan was a simple, “What does a federal deputy do? Truly, I don’t know. But vote for me and I will find out for you.” The only catch is that the clown must pass a reading test before he can take office.
