Chennai, Nov 17 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Passengers who were waiting to board the Chennai-Port Blair flight had some unexpected company in the form of a swarm of bees. They managed to delay the Kingfisher flight for up to 30 minutes, while the airport personnel tried their very best to bid them goodbye.

As per the schedule the flight was to depart at 10:10 am on Monday but the unexpected visitors laid all such plans awry. The flight was delayed by half an hour and it could finally depart at 10:40 am.

The bees were noticed by the pilot just prior to take off. According to air traffic controller, “The pilot noticed the bee swarm at the last moment before take-off, after completing the boarding procedures of about 90 passengers. As it was first spotted under the aircraft wings, we went for a thorough check and found that thousands of honeybees were concentrated at the spot in the making of hives.”

After spotting them, the agile pilot informed the ATC, as he feared that the bees could have entered the aircraft’s engine and might have tampered with some parts as well. The fire safety personnel rushed to the spot to ward away the bees. They first had to dress up in raincoats and also don masks so that they could escape the fury of the bees.
