8 Firemen Spend 5 Hours Saving Kitten Flushed by Alannah Merleto

Oct 20 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Three year old Alannah Merleto had flushed many strange things down the toilet, and she had no idea the seriousness of what she was about to do as she held a two day old kitten over the throne in her bathroom. Before it was over, eight firemen spent five hours of their day saving the kitten from the pipes under the toilet.

Alannah’s mother, Ammie Croft told ‘ The Daily Mail’ how she discovered the kitten’s whereabouts, after she found one of the four kittens which belonged to a brand new litter. “I asked Alannah if she knew where he was and she said ‘down the toilet. I didn’t believe it could be true. I thought, ’she can’t have put the kitten down the toilet’.” Upon hearing the whimper from inside her commode, she knew that the worst was true.

So, the NSW Fire Brigade, complete with the rescue equipment which had been used in 1989 during the Newcastle earthquake disaster, began the rescue. They disassembled the toilet, and snaked a camera down into the pipes. Inspector Tim Fox stated, “He was just sitting in the pipe, crying a bit.”

The firemen then used a prodding device which was covered in rags and pushed the tiny cat 10m to a place where he could be reached and rescued. Apparently the fire-fighters in Sydney, Australia are much more diligent than those in Tennessee, who watched a man’s house burn down, killing his pets, because he had not paid a $75 firefighting fee.
