April 18, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): 20-year-old Laura Hall from of Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, has earned herself a never before heard accolade by becoming the first person to be banned from entering any drinking establishment in the UK for two years.

Laura is charged under the Drinking Ban Order, or “Booze Asbos,” a new set of regulations introduced in the U.K last September wherein the police and local authorities can ask magistrates to put a ban on anyone responsible for alcohol-fuelled crime or anti-social behavior from entering establishments that sell alcohol.

Laura was earlier convicted of a series of public order offenses and had continually flouted bans from individual bars and clubs in her hometown.

A nation wide ban has now been imposed on her, after she recently attacked a barman and attempted to jump off a balcony.
Laura is put under an alcohol-misuse course as a part of rehabilitation. If she completes the course without any breach, the ban could be lifted after 12 months.

Although many officials feel that imposing and executing rules such as these can help curb alcohol related crime and misbehaviour, many remain skeptical as to how such rules can be practically enforced nationwide as most bars may be completely unaware of such rulings on specific individuals, unless a tracking system is created.
