Yarnbombing is a new street art
September 17th, 2010 - 9:29 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattSep 17 (THAINDIAN NEWS) There have been many knit graffiti signs around the California suburb of Kensington and many young guys have come across it just like James Jessie. He stated that those attractive signs located around Colusa Circle are making the town more attractive.
He stated that the signs are quite enjoyable but he has no idea what they are advertising. A lady known as Streetcolor has been moving around neighborhoods of Berkeley, Oakland and Kensington for around 12 hours every day knitting pole cozies and spinning yarns. Streetcolor has finished and positioned around 50 poles around those three neighborhoods.
When Streetcolor was quizzed over the phone as to what she’s trying to achieve with her yarn bombing she stated that it will be very difficult for her to give an answer. She said that, “Our culture is into being free and immediate. Once I put them up and I saw how the knitting looked against sidewalks and roads and signs, I thought it was amazing. It’s thrilling.”
She however stated that she loves to express herself through art and color as well as sculpturing. She stated that she feels at peace with herself knitting and putting them up on poles across those neighborhoods.
She also said she doesn’t expect to make any money from her artwork and people get access to them instantly.
