The world’s next biggest observation wheel may open in Beijing later than expected.The Beijing Great Wheel, touted as an attraction that will bring the city’s skyline and tourist dollars to new heights, is scheduled to open next year.
The mechanical system is being reviewed following the Singapore Flyer’s breakdown three months ago. On December 23 breakdown in Singapore, it left 173 people stranded for six hours, a review is being conducted of the Beijing Great Wheel’s mechanical systems and safeguards to ensure that no such fiasco occurs in China’s capital.
build backup systems for the Singapore Flyer, and sources said the additional investment for the Great Wheel is ‘a similarly significant sum’, said a source close to Beijing Great Wheel Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of GWC.
The company is also believed to be skirting a potential cash crunch as the funds raised so far might not cover the entire cost of the project, sources said.
