London, August 3 (ANI): Thinking of opening the new bottle of wine to de-stress? There’s a better way - petting your dog - says a new UK study.

The study revealed that a dog’s enthusiasm is infectious and that simply spending time with them leaves owners feeling more relaxed, more optimistic and less worried about daily things.

So much so, the time spent with a dog beats family mealtimes and even holidays.

‘Having a dog is rewarding in so many ways and I enjoy nothing more than coming home and being greeted by Inca, her daughter Lola, and Maggi,” The Daily Mail quoted TV presenter and dog owner Ben Fogle, as saying.

A poll of 1,000 of the UK’s seven million dog owners showed that 55 per cent felt more relaxed and 44 per cent were more optimistic after they spent some time with their dog.

“The research we conducted shows this is a profound and effective stress reducer and increases feelings of contentment and relaxation,” said Psychologist Dr David Lewis, of Mindlab International. (ANI)
