New Delhi, Nov 12 (IANS) If you look deep into her dreamy eyes, you might find love - along with a pair of coloured contact lenses! From green, blue, violet and hazel to basic colours like black, brown and grey - fashion conscious youngsters, women specially, are adding glamour to their appearance with these coloured eye accessories.
Preferred Look, a survey conducted by the global eye health company Bausch & Lomb, found that 50 percent of youngsters in India associated contact lenses with a glamorous look.
“With girls becoming more fashion concious, they want to look attractive wherever they go and coloured contact lenses dramatically changes the look. That is why these have become a much sought after fashion accessory,” Preet Paul Singh of Delhi-based Paul Opticals told IANS.
The survey also revealed that students prefer a glamorous looking partner for dates.
Ritika Chopra, a college goer, told IANS: “A first date is always very special and you always want to look good when you are out with a boy. I was quite excited when I went out on my first date.
“I bought a nice golden colour knee length dress and to complement the dress I bought hazel coloured contact lenses. To tell you the truth, the boy I went out with really liked it. Men always find women with a different eye colour fascinating and attractive.”
There are youngsters who want to have the eye colour of their favourite actresses like Aishwarya Rai, Lisa Ray, Shilpa Shetty and Bipasha Basu and they achieve the desired look by wearing lenses.
“I am a diehard fan of Aishwarya Rai. I really like her eyes so I bought myself lenses similar to her eye colour. I wear them whenever I go out with my friends,” said Richa Gaur, an ardent party-goer.
The coloured contact lenses help in enhancing one’s appearance and women in their 30s and 40s too use it frequently to add that extra glamorous touch to their personality.
“The demand is high among those who mostly go for parties and functions. Women working in the media and showbiz are also increasingly opting for coloured lenses as they have to look good owing to their profession,” Singh said.
Women also love matching accessories with their attire and Ashish Gupta of Laxmi Opticals says nowadays fashionistas are wearing matching contact lenses too.
“These lenses have become a fashion accessory. Some women even coordinate the colour of their eyes with the dresses they plan to wear to a party or function as it enhances the overall appearance,” Gupta said.
When it comes to men, they prefer natural shades unlike women who don’t shy away from trying brighter shades.
“Men have also been going in for coloured contact lenses although they prefer the natural look. But the popularity of coloured lenses is less among men folk compared to women. Men tend to buy basic colours rather than choose brighter ones,” added Gupta.
Brij Kalra, who sells eye accessories, points out that the choice of coloured lenses also depends on the personalities of people.
“People choose the colour of their contact lenses according to their personality. Those who have a milder personality go in for basic colours like brown and those who are aggressive go in for brighter colours like blue and green,” he said.
Leena Sharma, a beautician, feels it is also important for women to put on the right make up to complement the coloured lenses.
“The colour of your eye shadow, eyeliner and other makeup should go with the colour of your lenses. If you want your lenses to stand out, you need to contrast your makeup shades,” she said.
The price range of coloured contact lenses starts at Rs.550 and goes up to Rs.3,000.
