Vanity Fair refuses to give Gina Gershon apology over Bill Clinton affair storyJune 7th, 2008 - 1:01 pm ICT by ANI
New York, June 7 (ANI): Vanity Fair magazine has refused Gina Gershons demand for an apology over a profile piece on Bill Clinton which stated that the actress had a torrid after with the former US President.
The magazine has also refused to print a retraction for the same.
Gershon’s lawyers, demanding an apology, had said that “rumor mongering was substituted for fact-checking. It is apparent that Vanity Fair was intent upon publishing unsubstantiated rumors, and that it avoided learning the true facts so that the truth would not get in the way. Such conduct is reckless and malicious, giving rise to substantial liability for defamation.”
However, a spokeswoman for Vanity Fair says that the author of the piece, Todd Purdum is sticking to his story, and by extension, the same goes for them.
“Todd Purdum’s article does not indicate that former President Bill Clinton had an improper relationship with Gina Gershon,” the New York Daily News quoted her, as saying.
“The story merely examines the concerns of some of Clinton’s aides about reports of his behavior. We don’t believe that any correction is warranted.” (ANI)
