September 27th, 2009 - 9:47 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 27 (IANS) Thailand wants to cash in on the coming wedding season in India and promoting the country as a perfect wedding destination.
A three-day “Destination Thailand” festival has begun here at Select CityWalk in Saket, wooing Indian tourists with pristine beaches, wonderful hospitality, great shopping experiences, yummy food and relaxing massages. .
A spokesperson of Thailand’s tourism authorities said the industry was not much affected by the global economic recession because the country gives value for money.
“Outbound travel from India, especially to a short haul destination such as Thailand, is not much affected by the recession. Also Thailand gives value for money to Indians with several beautiful beaches, great shopping experience, reasonable air fare and world class hotels at reasonable rates,” Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya, spokesperson of tourism authority of Thailand, told IANS over e-mail.
“Also the availability of Indian and vegetarian food, exotic spas, visa on arrival facilities and, above all, Thai hospitality attract them,” he added.
“We are also promoting Thailand as a venue for Indian weddings. Many Indian weddings have taken place in Bangkok, Phuket and Hua Hin. This is because it works out very reasonable to hold weddings in Thailand as hotels are very reasonable,” explained Chattan.
“Then there is a shopping attraction. In fact Thailand can provide you with everything required for Indian wedding, be it pandit, elephant, mehendi wali, flower decorations, Indian food, Indian DJ or any other requirement,” he added.
To promote tourism, the government of Thailand has waived visa fee for a year till March 2010.
