cheeseMadison, Wisconsin, Mar 19, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The 2010 World Championship Cheese Contest which was held in Madison on Thursday could be rightly described as a cheese lover’s paradise with varieties of cheese from all across the world making its presence felt at the championship. Although the much anticipated event received thousands of entries from as many as twenty countries ultimately it was the Gruyere variety of cheese made by Cedric Fragniere from Switzerland that was successful in bagging the top honor. The cheese championship is internationally known to be the largest cheese and butter contest worldwide.

The Swiss cheese Gruyere which was adjudged the best cheese by a panel of thirty judges received widespread appreciation due to its creamy texture as well as a light flavor of herbs. At the same time, the second position was registered by another Swiss cheese variety which was named Andeerer Traum which was loved owing to its smear ripened hard texture and was made by an Andeer Sennerei of Switzerland. Meanwhile, the second runner up turned out to be an open class semi soft cheese known as Gmundner Berg Premium made by Alois Pesendorfer of Gmunden in Austria.

While talking about the reasons which enabled the Gruyere variety of cheese to win the top recognition, judge Bill Schlinsog added that the cheese boasts of a clean cheese flavor which is extremely smooth as well as aromatic. However, Cedric Fragniere, whose cheese took home the much coveted first prize was not present in the event to witness the achievement. It has been revealed that a banquet would be held in his honor in Madison next month.
