Sony’s Cat@Log allows pet owners to track moggies’ movements
June 4th, 2010 - 2:38 pm ICT by ANIMelbourne, June 4 (ANI): Sony has come up with a gadget called as a Cat@Log that allows pet owners to know exactly what their pet cats are doing.
Those behind the Human Animal Interaction Platform at Sony are hoping to tap the lucrative Twitter fan-cat lover crossover market by releasing the collar that gives cat owners an instant update on their pets’ movements.
Sony demonstrated the device at its Open House 2010 expo which showcases what the electronics giant is planning for the 12 months ahead, and the Cat@Log quickly became the main attraction, reports News.com.au.
The firm calls it a “lifelogging” device that uses an accelerometer to track the cats’ movements and translate them into a Twitter feed.
There are currently 11 preprogrammed phrase options that are linked to your cats’ actions. What your cat tweets when it eats, sleeps or runs, is up to you.
Sony developed the device in conjunction with the University of Tokyo and says it plans to broaden the range of actions before the collar is released.
An example of how the gadget works. If the cat is gagging, the accelerometer can recognise the motions and tweet “Hairball ejectur engaged … Fier in 3 … 2 … 1″.
Cat@Log also has a small camera and facial recognition software installed, which Sony claims can recognise other cats’ faces. (ANI)
