Sixth annual Spanish Film Festival to open Monday

New Delhi, March 26 (IANS) The sixth annual Spanish Film Festival in India will begin here Monday with a contemporary panorama of nine movies reflecting the European nation’s key concerns, social realities and creative trends. The festival will culminate April 3.

The movies will be screened in two venues — Instituto Cervantes, the Spanish cultural centre; and the India Habitat Centre, a statement issued by the Instituto Cervantes said.

The festival will begin with “Me To”, a 103-minute feature film directed by Alvaro Pastor y Antonio Naharro Monday.

The panorama features “Hierro”, 94-minute thriller directed by Gabe Ibanez, “Cell 211″, an action drama directed by Daniel Monzon, “Garbo: The Spy”, a biopic directed by Edmon Roch, “The Secret In Their Eyes”, a romantic thriller directed by Juan Jose Campanella, “Born to Suffer”, a comedy directed by Miguel Albaladejo, “Broken Embraces”, a romance directed by De Pedro Almodovar, “Agora”, a adventure feature directed by Alejandro Amenabar, “Mediterranean Food”, a comedy directed by Joaquin Oristrell.

Two documentaries — “La Pardika” and “Senora De” — will also be screened.

A spokesperson for the Instituto Cervantes said a seven-member delegation including director Edmon Roch, actress Elena Anaya, Gulliermo Rodriguez, head of the Caca De La India (House of India in Spain) and Carlos Cuadros, director of the Film Institute of Spain will accompany the showcase.

The delegation will meet representatives of the Indian movie industry and address sessions on the contemporary cinema movements in Spain.

A truncated edition of the festival will open in Pune April 1-3.

The festival in India is promoted by the Casa De La India (House of India in Spain) in collaboration with the Spanish Institute for Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA) of the Spanish culture ministry, the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development (AECID), the Spanish Organisation for the Management of Producers Rights (EGEDA), Instituto Cervantes in Delhi and the Embassy of Spain in India.

The festival will be supported by the Indian culture ministry.

The first Spanish Film festival was held in Delhi in March 2006 in association with the Directorate of Film Festivals of India at the Siri Fort Auditorium.
