Shops Cash in on Halloween Pet Costumes
October 13th, 2010 - 2:22 am ICT by Angela Kaye MasonOct 12 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Shops all over America are cashing in on the citizens love for their pets and the (sometimes ridiculous) way in which they show it. With Christmas items on the shelves before Halloween has even darkened the door, stores everywhere expose their desperation for more revenue. Now it seems to be coming from an unusual source: Halloween pet costumes.
According to Melanie Dallas, owner of “Sloppy Kisses” in Sarasota Springs, it is not enough to simply dress the kids, or yourself up in Halloween costumes. The pets need to be included. “What we do with our human children, we do with our canine children,” she explained.
According to the National Retail Federation, Halloween spending will reach 58 million dollars this year. Twelve percent of Halloween customers will be spending that money on Halloween pet costumes. It is a number which the federation calls “astounding”, but comes to no surprise to pet owners, and shop managers.
