Scribe becomes showstopper at WIFW
March 25th, 2010 - 9:03 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 25 (IANS) Journalists usually find place in the audience at fashion weeks but here was one exception. Delhi-based scribe Malvika Nanda made a unique showstopper at designer Aastha Bahl’s show at the ongoing Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Thursday.
“I know Malvika Nanda for the past seven to eight years and she is the inspiration behind my collection,” Bahl, whose collection Chronicles of Nomad opened the 15th edition of WIFW.
“Just like nomads are free-spirited, Malvika’s the same in real life. The way she is and the way she writes is what inspired my collection,” she told IANS.
The latest collection of Bahl depicted nomadic style and boasts of colours like blue, orange, yellow and red. Fabrics like chanderi, lycra, voile, corduroy, silk and brocade were popular in her show.
Her latest collection was a fusion of bright colours which included patchworked silk, patterned ikats and ribbed corduroy. Black silk gather skirt, collage patchwork jacket over twill drawstring draped skirt, harem pants made a statement at the fashion week.
Bahl started her design career as an intern with Rina Dhaka and design assistant to Aki Narula. In 2004, she launched her own label Mistletoe which later evolved into Aastha Bahl in 2008.
