Scottish women fancy cats and dogs over babies!
July 26th, 2010 - 5:36 pm ICT by ANILondon, July 26 (ANI): They dress them up, coo while talking to them and frame their baby pictures - but it’s not the babies women are pampering - it’s cats and dogs.
A survey showed that 75 per cent Scottish women buy their pets birthday and Christmas presents, while 82 per cent of pet owners admitted to feeding their pets human food such as cheese, crisps and cake.
The survey, conducted by insurer Petplan as part of the Petplan Census, also revealed that three out of four pet owners suffer worry and guilt at leaving their pets either alone, or with pet care providers, when they are at work.
“Dogs and cats can offer their owners many of the benefits frequently provided by children, including love and affection, companionship and happiness,” The Scotsman quoted Dr Deborah Wells, senior psychology lecturer at Queens University in Belfast, as saying.
She added that pets could even train women for motherhood!
And they could be a blessing for childless couples. (ANI)
