Rose garden, art gallery at Roerich’s Bangalore estate
July 6th, 2012 - 10:02 pm ICT by IANSBangalore, July 6 (IANS) Known for its gardens, Bangalore will get an exclusive 25-acre rose garden in city’s outskirts on the sprawling estate of Russian painter Svetoslav Roerich and his actress wife Devika Rani.
The estate, spread over 468 acres on Kanakapura Road, about 25 km from city centre, has been acquired by the state government following the death of Roerich in 1993 and Devika Rani the next year.
The state cabinet Friday decided that the horticulture department would develop a rose garden on 25 acres in the estate.
An art gallery would also be developed on another 25 acres to display the paintings of Roerich, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri told reporters after the cabinet meet.
Roerich and Devika Rani lived for several years on the estate they developed on the land given by the state government.
