Queens Islamic group denies involvement in Times Square bomb plot
May 3rd, 2010 - 7:33 pm ICT by ANINew York, May 3 (ANI): An Islamic group based in New York’s Queens area has denied involvement in the Times Square bomb plot, as it had warned the creators of “South Park” of retaliation for making fun of the Prophet Muhammed.
RevolutionMuslim.com posted a blog last month warning “South Park” creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, not to make fun at the Prophet.
The man who posted the blog, Abu Talhah al-Amrikee, insisted this is not a threat, but wrote that Parker and Stone “will probably wind up like Theo van Gogh.”
Dutch filmmaker Van Gogh was murdered in 2004 over his documentary addressing violence against Muslim women, the Daily News reports.
Younus Abdullah Muhammed, who runs the Web site RevolutionMuslim.com, said he was in Times Square at the time the car bomb was discovered, but he insisted he was not involved in the botched bombing.
“What do you think, I commanded somebody to blow up a building in the middle of Times Square?” Muhammed said.
NYPD detectives are looking into whether the attempted bombing is linked to a warning issued last month by the Revolution Muslim group against the Comedy Central animators, the Daily News reports.
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said detectives have not ruled out a connection between the Queens group and the Saturday terror scare outside the headquarters of Viacom, which owns Comedy Central.
“It had nothing to do with the South Park controversy. It was not an attack targeting Viacom,” the Daily News quoted Muhammed, as saying. (ANI)
