Beijing, June 12 (IANS) The quality of life in Beijing is worse than in other metropolitan cities in China like Guangzhou and Shanghai, says a new report.

Cities like Nanjing, Yinchuan, Hohhot, Hefei and Shijiazhuang also fare better than Beijing in terms of life quality, according to the China City Life Quality Index Report.

The study was released Sunday by the Institute of Economics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Capital University of Economics and Business.

The report was calculated using indicators such as per capita income and inflation, as well as information given by the residents, such as their opinions on their income, living costs, medical care and living environment.

Guangzhou topped the list with an index of 64.07, followed by Shanghai with 60.5 and Nanjing with 59.49.

Beijing ended up with a life quality index of 56.23, ranking eighth out of 30 cities.

Zhang Liancheng, one of the researchers, said the satisfaction of urban residents does not seem to match up with the rate at which the country’s economy has grown over the past 30 years.

Soaring inflation, high property prices and the quickening pace of urban life have had a negative effect on satisfaction levels, he said.
