Protesting mob baton charged in KashmirMay 2nd, 2008 - 8:47 pm ICT by admin
Srinagar, May 2 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday opened fire in Srinagar to disperse demonstrators protesting against alleged human rights violations in the region.
The situation turned violent after the police tried to stop agitated students of the Islamic students league who had gathered after Friday prayers.
The supporters of Islamic Students League were accusing the Special Operations Group of the police of violating the human rights and committing atrocities.
Issue of Kashmir should be solved in accordance with the wishes of the people. Mainstream political parties like the Congress, the People Democratic Party (PDP) and the National Conference (NC) are all Indian agents,” said Shakeel Bhat, member of Islamic Students League.
Police first tried to control the mob by bursting tear gas shells and even baton charged the protesters.
But, later they had to fire in the air to disperse the mob that started pelting stones.
The protests continued despite the fact that three of the demonstrators were injured. (ANI)
