Pink Diamond Auction Breaks World Record

pink-d1Nov 17, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A rare pink diamond was auctioned yesterday at Sotheby’s sale in Geneva. It is a beautiful 24.78 carat rock, with hues of pink that sparkles with occasional blue and white radiance. This master piece was bought by Laurence Graff, a 72 year old gem collector, who made the bid over the phone to own this gem in lieu of 29 million, that almost comes to $46 million.

The ‘fancy intense pink’, as the diamond has been named has been regarded as a world record price for any jewelery auction. The last big amount 15.3 million for a diamond. The proud billionaire diamond dealer, who got this diamond renamed this beautiful gem as “The Graff Pink”. He said that he is too excited to get the jewelery, which according to him is the most fabulous diamond he has seen in his career. He said that it needs re-polishing and is potentially flawless. Bidding for the diamond started at 12.65 million. The auction was being conducted by Auctioneer David Bennett, head of Sotheby’s international jewelery division. Even he was awestruck with the beauty of this diamond and thought that it is difficult to exaggerate how fine this stone is.

Laurence Graff concluded the auction by marking 29million as the final price of the diamond, auctioneer David Bennett said that it is once again reinstated that truly extraordinary objects will have extra ordinary prices. No one expected that the diamond would break the world record. The pre-sale estimate of cost of the diamond was not more than 24 million. The total amount that was raised through this action is 65.4 million. This ‘fancy intense pink’ has been under in private collection for the last sixty years.
